Orders of the CEO

Section 280 of the Election Act provides the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) with order-making authority to address emergencies, extraordinary circumstances and mistakes. Orders permit Elections BC to vary from the Election Act when necessary to address an issue. For example, in the 2020 Provincial General Election, a substantial number of Orders were issued to ensure that the election could be held safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. After an election, Elections BC publishes a summary of the orders issued in its post-election report.
