Media Advisory: Preliminary Voter Turnout Estimate Updated

VICTORIA – Elections BC has updated its estimate for voter turnout in the 41^st Provincial General Election to 61.5 per cent.

This estimate is based on the estimated number of registered voters on May 9 and the number of valid votes and rejected ballots cast at all voting opportunities. Voter turnout was previously estimated at approximately 60 per cent.

With the completion of final count, Elections BC reports that 1,985,523 British Columbians voted in the election, an increase of 171,611 from the 1,813,912 who voted in the 40^th Provincial General Election in 2013.

In 2013, voter turnout was 57.1 per cent of registered voters. In 2017, voter turnout is estimated at 61.5 per cent of registered voters.

Final voter turnout figures for the 2017 Provincial General Election will be available after the number of registered voters and the estimated number of eligible voters as of May 9 are confirmed.

The number of registered voters on May 9 will be confirmed after Elections BC has processed all voter registration transactions that occurred during the election period. Typically this figure is available in late August after a general election. The estimated number of eligible voters on General Voting Day will also be available in late August.
