Elections BC Will Be Closed September 19 for National Day of Mourning

Elections BC’s office will be closed on Monday, September 19 in recognition of the national day of mourning to honour the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The role of the monarch is enshrined nationally in Canada’s Constitution Act, 1867. Provincially, the monarch is represented by the Lieutenant Governor. The Lieutenant Governor has many important roles in our constitutional democracy, including approving the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly and the calling of elections.
