Taking Voting to Voters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 2, 2013

KELOWNA – Elections BC is taking voting accessibility to new heights. B.C. voters in the Okanagan and those flying in or out of Kelowna can vote at an advance voting place set up at the Kelowna International Airport (YLW).

“Ensuring British Columbians have access to voting is of utmost importance,” says Chief Electoral Officer Keith Archer. “We know voters are busy and we look for innovative ways to make the provincial electoral process effective, efficient and accessible.”

Earlier in the year, Kelowna-Lake Country District Electoral Officer Dennis Duggan approached YLW with a request to establish an advance voting place at the Kelowna International Airport. “We think this is a tremendous opportunity, not just for B.C. residents travelling during the election, but for over 2,000 YLW employees and the local community to exercise their vote,” says Airport Director Sam Samaddar.

All B.C. voters can vote at any advance voting place in the province on Wednesday, May 8 through Saturday May 11, 2013, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (local time). All B.C. voters can vote at any general voting place in the province on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (Pacific time).

All voters must prove their identity and residential address to receive a ballot or to register when voting. A list of acceptable types of identification is available from Elections BC at elections.bc.ca or 1-800-661-8683.
