Media Advisory: Coquitlam-Maillardville Judicial Recount Complete

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 5, 2013

VICTORIA – A judgment by the Supreme Court of British Columbia yesterday upheld the results of Elections BC’s final count of ballots in the Coquitlam-Maillardville electoral district. Mr. Justice Barry M. Davies conducted a judicial recount of the ballots cast in the electoral district for the 40th Provincial General Election, confirming the election of BC NDP candidate Selina Mae Robinson with a 41-vote lead over BC Liberal Party candidate Steve Kim.

The final count was automatically subject to a judicial recount because the difference between the top two candidates was less than 1/500 or .2% of the total ballots considered (35 votes out of 21,897 votes considered).

Under the Election Act, there is a two-day appeal period before the judge can issue a court certificate confirming the results to the District Electoral Officer for Coquitlam-Maillardville. The appeal period will expire on Thursday, June 6, 2013.
