Election period
The period that begins on January 1 and ends on the 29th day before General Voting Day.

Nomination period
The period for local election officials to receive nominations.
Tuesday, September 4, 2018 –
Friday, September 14, 2018
Campaign period
The period that begins on the 28th day before General Voting Day and ends at the close of voting on General Voting Day.

Campaign financing disclosure statement filing deadline Friday, January 18, 2019

New Rules for the 2018 General Local Elections

The Local Elections Campaign Financing Act has been amended to change the campaign financing rules for local elections in B.C. These changes apply to the 2018 General Local Elections that will be held on October 20, 2018. Read this bulletin (PDF) for more information.

Expense limits apply to the 2018 General Local Elections. Expense limits, established by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and Ministry of Education, will be available by April 30, 2018. An expense limits look-up tool will be published on our website when the limits are available.

Amendments to the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act do not apply to by-elections and assent voting held before the 2018 General Local Elections.
