Referendum on electoral system reform

Elections BC will be administering voting for the 2018 Referendum on Electoral Reform, under the provisions of the Electoral Reform Referendum 2018 Act.

The Ministry of Attorney General conducted a public consultation process about electoral reform in B.C., and has released a report of its recommendations. The report is available here.

The referendum will be conducted through mail-in ballot. Voting must close no later than November 30, 2018. More information about the referendum, including how to vote, neutral information about the voting systems on the ballot, and financing and advertising rules will be posted on our website as they are finalized.

The Chief Electoral Officer has reviewed the ballot questions for the 2018 referendum on BC’s voting system for clarity and simplicity, and provided recommendations in a letter to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

Five referenda have been conducted in B.C. since 1991. Visit our Reports page for information about past referenda.
